SI-TEX AIS Radar

Earlier in May this year Si-Tex Marine Electronics, a marine electronics manufacturer headquatered in Riverhead, NY, announced the release of their new product, SI-TEX AIS Radar with the suggested retail price of $US 699.

SI-TEX AIS Radar receives VHF transmissions from vessels carrying AIS transponders to display target data on radar like display. Dual-frequency AIS receiver demodulator, signal processor and 5" monochrome matrix display are housed in compact unit. Multi-function keys enable easy navigation through the menus. Any vessel on the screen can be selected to display vessel's MMSI number, name, course over ground, speed over ground, range, and Lat/Lon. Each vessel leaves a trail of previous positions so the user can instantly see its relative position and bearing. Each vessels status is shown by a different symbol so the user can see if a vessel is underway, at anchor, fishing etc. This information is sent continuously and is useful in navigating, traffic monitoring and collision prevention.

SI-TEX is unveiling three new expandable GPS/WAAS Charting Systems to meet the needs of a wide range of boaters. The new-for 2009 EC Series includes the EC5 with a 5-inch color LCD display, the EC7 with a wide high-definition 7-inch display and the EC11, which features a 10.4-inch high definition display that provides plenty of area for split-screen displays of chart/navigation displays/sounder/radar, video cameras and more. The EC11 also features video output for second-station repeater capability. All are IP67 waterproof for flexible installation on any style of vessel and come with flush-mount kits. Both the EC5 and the EC7 are available with a built-in 600W dual frequency fishfinder or as plotters only with the ability to add an optional external sounder module if needed. Both also come with a choice of internal or external GPS antenna and have a quick-release snap mount. The EC11 comes with an external antenna and the ability to interface an external sounder module for chart/fishfinder capabilities. All EC Series units feature ultra fast processors for instant screen changes when panning, zooming or switching between functions. SI-TEX uses a combination of its unique Rotary/Track dial, backlit keys and on-screen menus for easy access to all system functions. All EC Series navigators can easily connect with DSC VHF radios to receive and display position info for other DSC equipped vessels. All three can also be connected to AIS receivers for enhanced safety in crowded waters or SI-TEX’s e-Loran sensor — providing GPS/WAAS accuracy with true Loran positioning. This feature is ideal for anglers trying to pinpoint old Loran-C fishing spots. The EC7 and EC11 can also be interfaced with a choice of optional SI-TEX MDS radar scanners for full-featured radar capabilities with up to 48 nm range. The EC5 is capable of storing up to 5,000 waypoints and 25 reversible routes; the EC7 and EC11 can store up to 10,000 waypoints and 50 reversible routes. Base price for the EC5 with internal antenna is $599, while the internal antenna EC7 retails for $1,069. The EC11 carries a base price of $2,099.
